As a painter, Heather works instinctively, creating compositions in which she explores a sense of place and the energy that imbues it. Reluctant to describe with illustration and detail, her paintings shift in and out of focus, reminiscent of her past work as a portrait photographer. Waves of color summon memories and faded forms hint at a push and pull worked out on the surface. Heather approaches each painting with no expectations, only an impulse to tell a story transformed into energy, color, and movement. She invites the viewer to feel a connection, a curiosity, a sense of nostalgia. The story is within the painting as much as it is within the space it fills.
